Four- to six-day trip across a gentle plateau and down the Dadina River with dramatic views of Mount Drum, 12,010 feet; Mount Sanford, 16,237 feet; and Mount Wrangell, 14,163 feet. This is a wild and remote area with unsurpassed scenery, alpine tundra, and solitude. Watch for sign of caribou, Dall sheep, moose, bison, and ptarmigan. From the drop-off point along the east side of the Sanford River, WP-122, head 2.5 miles along gravel terraces toward the snout of the Sanford Glacier. At the glacier (WP-123), depending on conditions, you may have to either negotiate the several icy streams flowing from beneath the glacier or cross over sections of the glacier.
