Some Alaskan gems are tucked away in remote corners of the state, but this one is hiding in plain sight. An easily accessible high-country route with lots of options. This one is admittedly a bit off the reservation and doesn’t even border the park, but many people visit Valdez either before or after going to Wrangell-St. Elias, so it’s sort of in the general neighborhood. The pass is frequently clouded-in and rainy, so consider this route a destination of opportunity. It would be a nice easy trip of three to five days if you were in the region and the weather was good. Grab the chance to do this trip if it presents itself.
