Mount Maude is the second highest and most popular summit of the Entiat Mountains, a subrange of mountains dividing the upper tributaries of the Entiat River that is about midway between Glacier Peak and Lake Chelan. Maude is fairly remote, at least in terms of driving, making it an unlikely one-day climb, although motivated climbers sometimes manage it in a long day. Most climbers prefer a more leisurely two- or three-day climb, including a traverse of the Carne Mountain high route, one of the scenic highlights of the area. Maude is best climbed in early summer when snow makes for easy going up gullies and slopes that are long, tedious scree and talus slogs in late season. Summit views are outstanding and include close-ups of the Entiat Mountains and Bonanza Peak to the north; plus Glacier Peak and the Chiwawa Mountains to the west, the Dakobed Range and Mount Stuart to the south, and the Chelan Mountains to the east.
