This ride takes place in Millers Pond State Park, a nearly 300-acre property surrounding a picturesque pond, created in 1704 by a Durham resident seeking a water source for his gristmill. The trails here are ideal for beginners. The most challenging hazards can be avoided easily on bypasses that are immediately visible. This route covers two routes: a roughly 2-mile beginner loop and a longer, more varied loop, which covers just under 10 miles. Use caution around hikers, who have the right of way. Some areas are popular with dog walkers and joggers, so be aware of other users. Make sure to bring water, snacks, and a cell phone in case of problems. The southern portion of this route is very challenging and should not be attempted by solo riders. The rest of the park has bailout sections by each hazard, making for a great course for beginner riders looking to improve.
