This route explores bicycle/pedestrian routes in the Northeast Heights, starting from the Menaul Trailhead (as it appears on maps) at the east end of Menaul Blvd. A sign at the gate identifies the area as Embudo Canyon Trailhead, which is actually another half mile southeast at the end of Indian School Rd. Most people come here to bike along the north–south Open Space trails or hike into the adjoining wilderness area. For additional walking options, a map of the Sandia Ranger District is helpful for navigating the network of trails east of the trailhead, and a city bike map is useful for exploring urban routes to the west.
