Centerpiece to this Connecticut state park, 88-acre Burr Pond dazzles travelers with its clear waters. In the 1850s this impoundment powered early industry, including the world’s first condensed milk factory. Condensed milk was an important staple for the Union Army during the Civil War. The encircling Wolcott Trail travels the pond’s richly wooded rim and visits quiet coves, a peninsula, and a rock cave.
