Elmer Riggs and his crew of paleontologists from the Field Museum in Chicago discovered and excavated huge fossilized bones of a previously unknown dinosaur, Brachiosaurus altithorax, on this hill in 1900. Still on display outside the Field Museum in Chicago, the 75-foot-long plant-eater weighed 44 tons. A self-guided tour of Riggs Hill leads to sites where these bones, as well as partial skeletons of Stegosaurus and Allosaurus, were found.
