No Thoroughfare Canyon is wild and deep, exposing grayblack Precambrian metamorphic rock that is 1.7 billion years old—some of the oldest on the Colorado Plateau. A one-way hike from top to bottom is 8.5 miles and difficult. Backcountry pathfinding skills are necessary. However, a great 2-mile hike delivers you to an impressive intermittent waterfall. Another aerobic 1-mile hike beyond that takes you to a second waterfall dwarfing the first. You can then hike back the way you came.
