This is a moderately long day hike or easy overnighter where you can see Crazy Falls and have a better chance of seeing wildlife than most places in the Beartooths. The Ivy Lake trail starts off with a bang. The first quarter mile or so parallels cascading Crazy Creek Falls. You’ll want to stop and marvel at it two or three times along the way. Much of this trail goes through a drier, sagebrush-type environment with Pilot and Index Peaks highlighting the western horizon. Plan to hike this route in the early morning or evening to avoid the heat—and for a better chance of seeing those elk and moose that have been sleeping during the hot midday.
