Straddling the Whatcom-Skagit county line, Squires Lake is cooperatively managed by both counties’ parks departments. Opened to the public in 1997, this little park located just off of busy I-5 has become a popular place for area hikers, birdwatchers, trail runners, and hardcore trekkers wishing to continue farther on the Pacific Northwest Trail. Comprised of land belonging to the Squires family since 1905, the little lake and its surroundings were acquired by Whatcom County Parks in 1995.
