One of the last intact watersheds along the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake, Lockhart Creek has been protected as a provincial park. The tumbling creek dissects this 9200-acre (3734 hectares) green swath, and its accompanying trail is your only portal into this wilderness. Traveling through the heart of the park, the Lockhart Creek Trail is a sheer delight for both human and hound, hugging the cascading creek through cool, damp forest for most of the way. This hike is a good choice on hot and rainy days, for the thick forest canopy keeps you sheltered from both sun and rain.
