No getting around it, the hike to the historic Silver Spray Mine and hikers’ cabin is a groaner that gains 3,400 feet in elevation in 4 miles. But the roaming opportunities and views of jagged peaks in the Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park area of the Canadian Selkirks is worth the sweat. Besides, miners once made the trek laden with picks, shovels, and beans—and the beans weren’t freeze-dried, either. Modern hikers have more time than the miners to appreciate the scenery, such as the scattered alpine larch that light up with gold needles in late September. The trailhead for this hike also offers three other options important to consider up front. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
