Just 7 miles north of the Mexican border, at the base of the Canelo Hills, sits Parker Canyon Lake. Created by damming the runoff from the Huachuca Mountains, the 132-acre lake now provides bird-watching, boating, and fishing opportunities to anyone wishing to get away from the crowds. The Lakeview Campground, which lives up to its name, has two sections—one for tents and one for RVs. The area specifically for tent campers is on the left as you come in, closer to the shore on a grassy hillside. There you’ll find 40 sites spread along two loops, each with a picnic table and a fire pit with grill (some have an upright grill). Head into the right-hand loop but bypass the first ten sites since you can’t see the lake as well from there.
