Shadeless and oppressively hot in summer, the hiker-only Deadman Creek Loop is a wonderful excursion during the milder temperatures of spring and fall. The trail begins by following a short, spring-fed stream watering a luxuriant swath of foliage that stands in stark contrast to the extensive slopes of drought-tolerant vegetation surrounding the watercourse. Beyond the stream, the trail climbs to an overlook with expansive views of Washoe Valley and the Virginia and Carson ranges. While most hikers seem content with the overlook as their ultimate destination, the trail does continue on a circuit around Peak 5567.
