Definitely not for the faint of heart, the stiff, nearly 2500-foot climb from Lakeview to Hobart Reservoir provides rugged hikers and mountain bikers with sweeping views, pleasant scenery, and a potentially refreshing dip in the relatively mild waters of the reservoir at the conclusion of the trip. Early-summer visitors will be rewarded with a fine display of seasonal wildflowers, and autumn provides a splash of golden yellow from the turning aspens along McEwen Creek. A fine network of closed roads within Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park provides a bounty of alternatives for trip extensions, especially for mountain bikers.
