Don’t worry. Despite the name, your dog will not be navigating through cacti on this hike. This trail is a great adventure if you like to go jogging with your four-legged friend. The trail follows a dirt road to a secret forest of teddy bear cholla cacti. The cacti are off to the side of the road, hidden until you turn a corner just before you reach them: an impressive sight that you don’t often see. If for some reason a cactus spine does become attached to you or your dog on this hike (or any other desert hike), use sticks or a wide-toothed comb to remove it. If it is deeply imbedded, use scissors to remove the main piece, and go after the remaining spines with pliers. As long as your dog is under control, this should not be an issue since the cacti are off the dirt road. Under foot and paw: Dirt road.
