Named after a Southern Paiute word that means “black tobacco” (which refers to a plant that grows in the area), Toquop Wash is one of the more beautiful valleys in the Mormon Mountains. Perhaps it’s the shape of the pinion-juniper-covered hills, the limestone cliffs high on the peaks, or the open, silent solitude. There is no real destination here. This hike is designed to help you enjoy the beauty of this rugged valley, where the Great Basin meets the Mojave Desert. In November of 2004, Congress designated 158,000 acres of the Mormon Mountains as wilderness. Vehicle: HC/4WD.
