Hidden Forest lives up to its name. Driving through the parched landscape of the Las Vegas Valley and the Desert National Wildlife Range, it’s hard to imagine that enough water exists here, high in the Sheep Range, to support such a beautiful forest. This area is a perfect example of a “sky island” habitat, in which temperate plant and animal communities, supported by the cool temperatures and higher precipitation at elevation, thrive high above the sere landscape below. Isolated forests such as this are common high in Nevada’s many mountain ranges. Vehicle: HC/4WD.
