Starting from the Peralta Trailhead on the southwest side of the Superstition Mountains, this route uses the Peralta Trail for a short cherry-stem section in Peralta Canyon, then heads cross-country along the Superstition Crest, the western ridge of the Superstition Mountains forming the classic skyline seen from the cities in the Valley of the Sun. Dropping off the high ridge, the loop returns on the excellent Dutchmans and Peralta Trails. An option avoids the crest and descends little-traveled West Boulder Canyon. Hike clockwise to get the rugged cross-country portion done near the start of the loop. You’ll need the USGS topos for the cross-country portion of the loop.
