Starting from the Canyon Lake Trailhead, the only Superstition trailhead on a paved road, this loop with a cherry stem starts on the Boulder Trail then traverses Lower La Barge Box via cross-country hiking. Emerging from the confines of the canyon, the loop continues on the little-used Cavalry Trail and finishes on the Boulder Canyon Trail. Highlights include the awesome narrows of La Barge Canyon and views of Weavers Needle. Hike clockwise to do the cross-country section through Lower La Barge Box near the start of the loop. The Boulder Trail starts across the highway from the trailhead and climbs steadily up a ridge to the southeast. Don’t forget to look back—the views get better as you climb. When the trail turns east, it leaves the ridge crest and contours around the heads of several small side canyons.
