Hiking, cycling, and horseback riding are allowed here, and though you should be prepared to heed trail etiquette and follow leash rules, the use of this area is still quite low. Once you have watered and leashed Fido—do not forget to pack in water, and purify what you find at the spring—you are ready to head out. Pretty forest hikes in the hot, dry Southwest never go out of style, especially when you are traveling with your favorite canine. Tall pines, aspens, and oaks mean a harmony of greens, golds, and reds in autumn; broad, lush meadows delight the eyes in the spring when a rainbow of wildflowers shimmers on the forest floor. After snowmelt and summer rains, springs and ephemeral washes gurgle and soak the boulders and earthen banks of their surrounds.
