The long drive to this short hike pays off in a remote wilderness experience and scenic red rock views that you can enjoy with your dog. Once you have watered and leashed your dog—and be sure you have packed in plenty of water for this exposed trail—head through the gate and into the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Area. The fairly level trail follows a slightly winding, northeasterly heading and you immediately come upon a sign that directs you ahead to Sycamore Basin, Cow Flat, and the Taylor Cabin Trail. Cross a wash—unless it has rained recently it will probably be dry— and follow the path as it dips down gently into the basin.
