The wide two-track road takes you and your dog through a shady glen of spruce, ponderosa pine, and aspen. A gentle rise here foreshadows the climb ahead, but for now your path levels out at approximately 0.2 mile when the road leads you into a meadow. Though there are no signs on this trail, the only tricky part is finding the spring. Fortunately, even in dry years, it is fairly obvious to the careful observer. At the 0.4-mile mark, head right (southeast) directly across the meadow toward a thick clump of shrubs and a low hill; the spring is now routed through a pipe behind this glade. Be sure to treat any water you take from the spring. Cattle grazing is permitted on most public lands in Arizona, and giardia is always a threat.
