This last and shortest trail into Lookout Canyon first leads you through an opening in a thick curtain of young aspens, a breathtaking sight after the first frost, when the aspen leaves shift from bottle green to a honeyed gold. As with Lookout Canyon Trail 121, there is no leash requirement as long as your dog responds unfailingly to voice control. Keep the leash handy as a courtesy to other trail users, should you come across any. Your path turns northwest in 0.1 mile and continues winding around that orientation for some time. Though this trail bed was also historically a road, it is much more overgrown here and very nice under boot and paw. You and your dog are walking a gentle decline under the open canopy of mature pines, stately spruces, and at least three distinct generations of aspens. (On your return trip, there is no shortage of level places for a shady water and play break.)
