This loop hike starts from the spectacular Portal area on the east side of the Chiricahua Mountains, climbs to the crest of the range and descends via another trail. It offers some of the best scenery to be found in the Chiricahuas. The Chiricahua Mountains have experienced several large wildfires in recent years. Expect problems with erosion and deadfall along some of the trails. Water can be scarce along the Crest Trail section of the route.
