Keet Seel is one of the largest and best preserved Anasazi ruins in the Southwest, and it is protected in a division of Navajo National Monument. The overnight, out-and-back hike to the ruin is a popular, classic desert hike through towering sandstone canyons. The trail to Keet Seel is only open when Park Service rangers staff the Keet Seel area. A permit must be obtained from the Visitor Center. The trail and the national monument units are on Navajo Reservation land, and hikers must stay on the trail. Camping is allowed only in the campground at Keet Seel.
