The trip to Marlette Lake via the North Canyon Road is still a favorite with mountain bikers. (If you’re interested in mountain biking, see Trail 46: Flume Trail as well.) After completion of the Marlette Lake Trail in 2006, which roughly parallels the road, hikers and equestrians now have their very own route to follow. The 4.5-mile journey starts at one artificial lake, Spooner, and ends at another, Marlette. In between, the trail passes through mixed forest up North Canyon, before a short descent leads to the scenic lakeshore. Once there, hikers, bikers, and equestrians with extra time and energy have additional opportunities to reach fine Lake Tahoe views, colorful wildflower displays, and extensive stands of aspens.
