This rocky, self-guided trail loops through a densely forested area of Mt. Nebo. The trail starts to the right with a series of natural stone steps descending through the thickly wooded forest. This sets the tone for the entire hike. The trail zigzags past notable rock formations. The spiky seedballs of the sweet gum trees are prevalent on the trail and make for unsure footing at times. Other trees common to the area include red maple, black gum, a variety of oaks, and dogwood. The numerous dogwoods make Summit Park Trail a pretty hike to do around Easter time. Steep up-and-down grades over unrelentingly rocky terrain account for the strenuous rating of the trail. It is not a hike recommended for children or persons with health problems. Fido should stay home, too.
