Most of the undeveloped land in this area lies within the Inyo National Forest and in two of its wilderness areas: Ansel Adams and John Muir. Central to the area is the community of Mammoth Lakes, one of California’s major summer and winter outdoor playgrounds. Mammoth Mountain, which towers over the town, hosts skiers in the winter and hikers and mountain bikers from spring through fall. Devils Postpile National Monument and Rainbow Falls are two of the attractions of Reds Meadow, west of the town. Jewel-like lakes at the base of snowcapped mountains beckon swimmers, anglers, and boaters. Campgrounds included in this eTrail are: Lundy Canyon, Lower Lee Vining, Cattlegaurd, Moraine, Boulder, Aspen, Big Bend, Ellery Lake, Junction, Saddlebag Lake, Tioga Lake, June Lake Loop, Hartley Springs, Glass Creek, Obsidian Flat, Deadman, Big Springs, Mammoth Lakes Basin, Reds Meadow, Convict Lake, McGee Creek, Crowley Lake, French Camp, Holiday, Aspen Group Camp, Iris Meadow, Big Meadow, Palisade, East Fork, Pine Grove, Upper Pine Grove, Rock Creek Lake, and Tuff.
