Welcome to “The Crossroads,” where the lava of the Modoc Plateau, the granite of the Sierra Nevada, and the sagebrush of the Great Basin meet and blend. This is one of the most fascinating and geologically diverse areas of California. Lassen National Forest offers miles of wooded trails, streams, and the Thousand Lakes Wilderness. Eagle Lake is the second largest natural lake in the state, and Lake Almanor is one of the most beautiful of the manmade ones. Hat Creek offers challenging trout fishing, and Subway Cave features a self-guided tour through the largest lava tube in California. Lassen National Scenic Byway makes a 170-mile loop through four major geophysical regions, providing an excellent tour of “The Crossroads.” Campgrounds included in this eTrail are: Honn, Bridge, Rocky Cave, Hat Creek, Big Pine, North Battle Creek Reservoir, Latour Demonstration State Forest, McCumber Reservoir, Butte Creek, Crater Lake, Bogard, Silver Lake, Eagle Lake, Ramhorn Springs, Goumaz, Roxie Peconom, Battle Creek, Hole in the Ground, Gurnsey Creek, Willow Springs, Elam, Alder Creek, Potato Patch, South Antelope, Black Rock, Benner Creek, High Bridge, Warner Creek, Domingo Springs, Last Chance Creek, and Lake Almanor.
