The centerpiece of the Klamath-Mount Shasta area is the snow-covered cone of Mount Shasta itself. It rises to an elevation of 14,162 feet and is visible on clear days from more than 100 miles away. Most of the remainder of the area lies within the Klamath National Forest. This 1.7-million-acre woodland provides a host of outdoor opportunities. Excellent trout, salmon, and steelhead fishing is available in the Klamath, Salmon, and Smith Rivers and their tributary streams, as well as in the many small lakes that dot the area. Campgrounds included in this eTrail are: Trees of Heaven, Beaver Creek, Sarah Totten, O'Neill Creek, Grider Creek, Fort Goff, West Branch, Curly Jack, Sulphur Springs, Norcross, Dillon Creek, Oak Bottom, Ti-bar Flat, Indian Scotty, Bridge Flat, Lovers Camp, Idlewild, Mule Bridge, Red Bank, Martin's Dairy, Juanita Lake, Shafter, Kangaroo Lake, Scott Mountain, Carter Meadows Group Horse Camp, Hidden Horse, Trail Creek, Shadow Creek, East Fork, Matthews Creek, Hotelling, Nordheimer Flat, McBride Springs, Castle Lake, Gumboot Lake, Ah-Di-Na, Fowlers Camp, Cattle Camp, Algoma, and Castle Crags.
