This trail along the base of Elden Mountain provides access to the Dry Lake Hills-Elden Mountain trail system from Flagstaff. Though the views are limited, the pine-oak forest and the volcanic boulders make this an interesting hike. Fir and aspen begin to mix with the pine as you near the northern end of the trail about 3 miles from the start, and the slopes to the right (east) become a rock cliff. To begin, go through the old gate into Buffalo Park. Continue north on the Pipeline Access Trail, which goes to the gas pipeline station at the north side of the park. At 0.6 mile and the park boundary, the Oldham Trail starts just to the right (east) of the buildings, at a gap in the fence. The trail descends the slopes of the mesa, then heads northeast across the shallow valley below, directly toward Elden Mountain. Numerous false trails go both left and right in this area.
