This varied route begins with dramatic overlooks into the box of Sapillo Creek canyon. Here you’ll ?nd solitude in a remote and rugged corner of the Wilderness along with pleasant hot springs. Along the way spectacular volcanic cliffs and formations line the rugged Gila River canyon. Between the hot, dry Spring Canyon Trail and the wet, slow Gila River Trail don’t expect fast hiking. In fact, turn the slowness into a plus as a way to more fully savor the canyon majesty. For the first 6 miles the Spring Canyon Trail weaves in and out of complex topography cut by closely spaced ravines and side canyons. The payoff is the breathtaking view into the colossal canyon of the lower Sapillo Creek box.
