This route includes dramatic overlooks into the box of Sapillo Creek canyon, which in itself is well worth exploring. There is ample solitude and scenery in this remote and rugged corner of the Wilderness. The hot, dry Spring Canyon Trail is not for the faint of heart or the faint of joint. For the first 6 miles the trail weaves in and out of complex topography cut by closely spaced ravines and side canyons. The payoff is the breathtaking view into the colossal canyon of the lower Sapillo Creek box. Well- conditioned hikers can make the nearly 20-mile round-trip in a day, but the more reasonable option is an overnighter.
