This backpack in the central Superstition Mountains offers you a great contrast between ridge hiking and canyon hiking and takes you into rugged, wild, and little-visited canyons. Start on the JF Trail, heading southeast from the trailhead. As the trail climbs onto the ridge, note Lost Dutch Canyon to the northeast. You’ll return through this canyon. Continue to climb steadily along the ridge, passing the high point of the trip just before descending into the head of Tortilla Creek. A side trail goes 0.5 mile to Mullin Spring. At Tortilla Pass (5.8 miles), turn left onto the Rogers Canyon Trail. You descend, steeply at first, north into an unnamed tributary of Rogers Canyon. After the descent moderates, the trail and canyon curve east and meet Rogers Canyon at Angel Basin, at Crags along Fish Creek.
