The pueblo at the rim of Perry Tank Canyon contains about 150 rooms. That alone makes the site worth seeing, but perhaps even more impressive than the ruin’s size is the elaborate display of rock art nearby. One of the more noteworthy petroglyphs near the pueblo is shaped like a duck. In fact, the image is so peculiar that the entire ruin is officially called Pueblo Pato, which translates very loosely to “Quack House” from Spanish. The duck is pecked onto the side of a cliff just below the ruin along with two deer and a human. The four creatures, all standing in a row, have a cartoon-like appearance that can only be described as comical. Other petroglyphs near the ruin are equally striking, not so much for their shape as for their size. You’ll find pictures of deer as big as small dogs, and a few human-shaped glyphs at the site are as large as preschool-age children.
