You’ll find North America’s most impressive pre-columbian ruins north of Mexico in Chaco Canyon on the Navajo Reservation in northwestern New Mexico. This broad canyon would otherwise go unnoticed in this vast, seemingly empty land of many canyons. Why this canyon became the center of the culture known as the Anasazi is but one of many mysteries surrounding this hauntingly beautiful place. Hiking here is strictly limited to the few short trails designated and maintained by the Park. No backcountry camping is permitted. This trail guide covers an area that contains approximately 10 miles of trails.
