Rugged, inhospitably hot and dry, and hemmed in by a military weaponry proving ground on its eastern border and the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge to the south and west, the Trigo Mountains Wilderness area is not one of Arizona’s most frequently visited outbacks. Characterized by sawtooth ridges, steep-walled canyons, and an interlacing system of arroyos, the wilderness consists of fourteen miles of the Trigo Mountain ridgeline bisected by the Clip Wash. Red Cloud Wash lies to the southeast and Hart Mine Wash to the north. This trail guide covers an area with no maintained trails.
