Alpine lakes and close-up views of the high peaks in the Snake Range. Although the Alpine Lakes Trail is relatively short, with little elevation gain, it lies at 10,000 feet above sea level. Most people, especially those who live near sea level, will have lowered hiking ability at this altitude. The signed trail crosses Lehman Creek on a small footbridge, then forks after a short distance. Turn right on the Alpine Lakes Trail, which climbs through Engelmann spruce–limber pine forest north of the creek. After crossing the creek again, the pleasant trail switchbacks to the right through meadows bordered with quaking aspen. Hikers get fine views of Wheeler Peak.
