This is a combination trip featuring the best of both worlds in south Alabama — an unbelievably beautiful paddle through the bayous of one of the largest river deltas in the country plus a hike to ancient Indian mounds in the absolute middle of nowhere. The hike itself is reminiscent of hiking in South American rain forests. Trail surface: Canoe float trip; hiking trail is level dirt path. Highlights include southern bayous with Spanish moss–lined banks. Mound Island features abundant wildlife, saw palmetto, greenfly orchid, and cypress trees.
