Olmsted Point is on a polished granite dome with scattered Jeffrey pines, lodgepole pines and glacial erratics. The randomly strewn boulders were left behind after the glaciers retreated more than 10,000 years ago. This short hike begins from a scenic overlook with interpretive panels describing the geologic and scenic features. The trail leads to an 8,400-foot glaciated knoll with breathtaking views. The scenic vistas extend down Tenaya Canyon to the 9,926-foot Clouds Rest, a rounded back view of Half Dome, Mount Watkins, Polly Dome, Tenaya Lake, the domes and peaks of the Tuolumne Meadows region, and the Sierra Crest on the eastern boundary of Yosemite.
