The hike up the trail to the overlook gives you a magnificent aerial view of the mine encampment and the rolling hills of the Last Chance Range. Mine openings proliferate like rodent burrows. The rust-colored rock and earth in piles at each opening gives the mining operations an eerie fresh appearance, as if the work here just stopped yesterday instead of 50 or 100 years ago. Numerous wooden posts mark the mountainside along the trail to designate claims of long-gone prospectors. Crossing carefully beneath the hilltop tram tower, you arrive at trail’s end and a view westward of winding Corridor Canyon. The canyon is unique in that it provides both a closed-in experience as well as far distant vistas of cliffs, overshadowed by even higher cliff layers beyond, opening to expansive views of adjacent and faraway mountains.
