A steep out-and-back hike to a remote peak in the southern Last Chance Range with spectacular views of surrounding basin and range country. From the summit, the Saline Valley lies 4,500 feet below to the west. Beyond is the soaring 10,000-foot crest of the Inyo Mountains with the even higher Sierra Nevada looming further to the west. The crown of Death Valley —lofty Telescope Peak —can be seen to the southeast, along with the vast wooded plateau of Hunter Mountain. Perhaps most impressive is the eagle’s-eye view of the gleaming white Racetrack playa encircling the tiny dark specks of the Grandstand far below.
