This clear, well-defined trail is actually a closed four-wheel drive mining road managed as a hiking trail (a troad). It takes off in a northeasterly direction from the Cottonwood Campground. The first 100 yards pass a series of planted shrubs. The Eagle Mountains rise to the southeast above an alluvial fan coated with cholla, creosote, and yucca. The troad continues up a sandy wash marked every so often by rock cairns. The old two-track is plainly visible for the most part continuing in a nearly straight line. A long but gently graded walk across open Colorado Desert, through a gap in the remote Eagle Mountains, to the remains of a historic well site.
