A broad, sandy trail leads from the parking lot up the rise to the site of a prehistoric village set against the rock-strewn hillside. The slight elevation gain provides a sweeping view of Little Blair Valley, stretching to the northwest. Huge obelisk-like boulders frame large horizontal granite stones, in which the morteros, or mortar stones, were worn over a thousand years of grinding by the Kumeyaay Indians. Fortunately, the site has been respected by visitors and remains in the same condition as when the Indians departed, giving it a hallowed feeling.
