Mount Rubidoux is a prominent granite hill located west of downtown Riverside and south of the Santa Ana River. The mountain is named for Louis Rubidoux, who settled the area in the mid-1800s, but it was Frank Miller, one of Riverside’s early promoters and the builder of the historic Mission Inn, who transformed Mount Rubidoux from an anonymous bump to a much-loved and inspirational park. Miller originally intended to develop the mountain for mansions, but his plan failed. Instead, Miller graded a road circling up the mountain that hikers, cyclists, joggers, and strollers enjoy today.
