A day hike to the Milton Mine. The trail first traverses a rolling desert of arid hills. After crossing the first major arroyo, the track wanders amid a complicated maze of hillocks and draws, richly populated with saguaro, cholla, and organ pipe cacti. The second major wash marks the beginning of mining activity, although the first two shafts are difficult to spot when approached from the south. The trail then follows a third arroyo toward the western tail of the Puerto Blanco Mountains, crossing the bleak fringes of La Abra Plain along the way. Creosote and bursage rule the flats, while a sparse collection of cacti grows along the wash.
