A day hike or backpack into the Wilderness of Rock. This route accesses a very popular area of pine forests and striking granite formations. The Wilderness of Rock receives particularly heavy visitor use from late spring through early fall, and travelers should make an extra effort to ensure that they leave the area unscarred by their passage. The rugged nature of the country makes it hard to find a level campsite, and campers should be especially careful to conceal their tents from passersby. Water can generally be found in the wash of Lemmon Canyon. Route-finding skills will prove useful here, since the path often crosses broad stretches of bare stone.
