A day hike to a mountaintop in the Santa Teresa Mountains. The Cottonwood Mountain trail is one of the few cleared pathways into the wild and remote Santa Teresa Mountains. The entire south slope of this range burned in 1994, and the trail traverses recovering grasslands and upland shrub communities to reach sheer outcrops of stone that command impressive views into the Santa Teresas. The jagged monoliths of Pinnacle Ridge dominate the scene, and the northern tail of the Galiuro Mountains rises in the distance.
