This trek uses the southern leg of the Huachuca Crest trail, which follows the top of the range to reach Miller Peak. There are a large number of old mine and prospect sites along this well-maintained trail, and the sweeping views of the surrounding country never stop. Miller Peak is the highest point in the Huachuca Mountains, and from its summit hikers can get a 360-degree view that encompasses most of south-central Arizona. The trail begins at Coronado National Memorial and traverses northward across the grassy slopes bordering Montezuma Pass. Scattered live oaks interrupt the grasslands, providing pockets of shade along the route. The path makes a brief sojourn on the ridgetop, where it reveals views of the Sierra Madres to the southwest. To the east San Juan Peak is framed by the sloping walls of Montezuma Canyon. Both of these massifs rise south of the Mexican border.
